Meet Anne Schaefer

Residence July 12, 2014 — July 27, 2014

In The Thick Of It

SHIFTSPACE Gallery

During her two-week residency at Harvester Arts, Anne Schaefer created a large scale installation at WSU’s SHIFTSPACE Gallery. Experiential in scale and optically charged through Anne’s careful combination of colors, the work cultivated a perceptually immersive experience for the viewer. The work — part plan, part improvisation — continued Schaefer’s use of a visual language culled from the refuse of the studio, the by-products of her producing process. New graphic marks were distilled from ghost-like prints on the walls of her Philadelphia studio, collections of textured tape clusters were flattened and re-imagined as giant stickers, and paint spills mixed to create an atmospheric haze. These elements were reminders of past works that have been grafted to each other, creating new possibilities for growth and expansion.

Satellite ARTISTS

For each Resident Artist, at least two local Satellite Artists or groups are selected. Satellite Artists are tasked with taking an aspect of the Resident’s work, process, or ideas and creating new work in response. Satellite Artists have the opportunity to work closely with the Resident Artist. Satellite Artists may collaborate or produce independent work. Satellite Artists are responsible for an exhibition and receive a stipend of $250 each.
