SunSails

2016 Riverfest Artist-in-Residence

Wichita Festivals, Inc. and Harvester Arts welcomed the Riverfest 2016 Artist-in-Residence, award-winning fiber and installation artist, Rachel B. Hayes. She visited Wichita regularly beginning in January of 2016 to create SunSails, an installation built of nylon weather-proof fabric and high-tension cable. Hayes was assisted by local artists who sewed hundreds of fabric “flutters” that adorned five nearly 50-foot-wide art pieces.

In addition to her work installed for Riverfest, Rachel installed the exhibition Light and Shade: Works by Rachel B. Hayes at Harvester Arts. This installation consisted of fabric paintings hung and installed in the space to create a vibrant color experience.

Satellite ARTISTS

For each Resident Artist, at least two local Satellite Artists or groups are selected. Satellite Artists are tasked with taking an aspect of the Resident’s work, process, or ideas and creating new work in response. Satellite Artists have the opportunity to work closely with the Resident Artist. Satellite Artists may collaborate or produce independent work. Satellite Artists are responsible for an exhibition and receive a stipend of $250 each.
