Concept is a regional art exchange program and exhibition that funds four Oklahoma and four Wichita, KS artists to create original work featured in the 2020 exhibition. These eight artists are given the chance for regional investigation through the partner-city exhibition exchange between ahha in Tulsa, OK and Harvester Arts in Wichita, KS. The exchange allows audiences and the participating artists to find both similarities and differences in regional concepts, trends, practices, and more.
Applications will be selected by the Guest Curator Heather Pesanti, Chief Curator of the Contemporary Austin. Heather will do studio visits with finalists in August and choose the final Concept Focus artists at the end of the summer. She will work closely with the Focus artists to encourage and develop original work featured in the exhibition. The exhibition is intended to nurture, support, and connect artists to art practitioners; increase exposure; and foster critical dialogue about their work, and the state of art in Oklahoma and Kansas.
Visual Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply. OVAC supports all artwork and projects directly involved with the visual arts. Submissions must include a description of the proposal, 10 -15 digital images or a 10-minute video sample of past work, artwork sample information, an artist statement, and a resume. Collaborative art submissions are welcome if all participating artists are eligible.
An honorarium of $1,500 will be given to the four Focus artists from each city (8 total) who will also receive travel assistance for the exchange exhibition between Tulsa and Wichita.
The entry fee is $20 for non-members, and is waived for OVAC members. You do not have to be a member in order to apply.
